Summer Drink For The Youngsters

If you've read earlier posts you know how much I love the iced mocha. It really is my pick me up around the two o'clock hour which, for some reason, is when my body wants to take a nap. Lately, I have noticed a sadness in my daughters' eyes as I make my afternoon drink and I finally figured out why... they don't have a signature drink to look forward to. So, without further ado, Rachel and Margaret now have a drink. The short video will describe everything.

Typical Monday

Alright, here was our day. The girls and I got up, jumped on the bikes after some breakfast and went on a wicker bike basket search. Rachel really wants one for her old school bike and we are having a hard time finding one that is small enough. After two bike shops and no luck we decided to goof around and take funny pictures of each other out and about. Later on in the day our dear sweet Margaret won the funny picture prize by falling asleep on the living room floor with a cliff bar in her hand. Maggie and Opal...two peas in a pod.

After dinner bike madness

The last few days have been really hot and not much has been going on, but the Corn girls will always find the time and energy to bike. Here's a little video of both girls showing off for the camera.

Summer Drink

Summer is hot and nothing tests better than an iced mocha. But, man, those things get expensive after a while and the joy of drinking one is diminished a bit when you realize how much money you're spending. So, after a few false steps, I think I've found a recipe for an iced mocha that is easy to make at home and darn tasty. My friends who own coffee shops please stop reading.

What you need:

3/4 lb of coffee
8 cups cold water
a pitcher (I use a sun tea jar)
cheese cloth
a strainer (not necessary but handy)
another pitcher

Step 1: Ground the coffee and put it in a pitcher.
Step 2: Pour 8 cups of cold water in pitcher and stir.
Step 3: Place coffee and water in refrigerator for 24 hours.
Step 4: Strain mixture through cheese cloth into other pitcher.
Step 5: Cover top of coffee concentrate and keep in refrigerator until needed.

Here it is in pictures and then a short video to show how I make my particular mocha.

Quick Trip To Wichita

Our midweek trip to Wichita was a nice escape. We had a great time seeing family and enjoying some things in Wichita we haven't done before.

NO BIKES...I don't think so.

Rachel was a bit disgusted that this sign even exists in the world.

The 1st Flint Hills Bike Classic

My brother in law and I rode our bikes from Manhattan, Kansas to Wichita, Kansas. The mileage was 162.4 miles of mostly back country dirt roads.
